Haunted Mini-Golf

You have not lived until you go to play miniature golf in a haunted house.Yes,this is the attraction:It's black light, glow in the dark, miniature golf in a full functioning haunted house with animatronics and everything. One of the basic ground rules is to not use your golf club as a weapon.I took my god daughter this past weekend.Sad to say I did my share of screaming, got dizzy on the vortex we walked through and thought I was going to lose my lunch.Of course, being the adult I had to go first but I really did not want to.We had a good time but I did not improve my golf game.

This made me think though. One of my favorite holidays is Halloween.. I know that lots of people think this holiday is demonic.I use to as well.It always bothered me that the fun loving events surrounding Halloween as a kid,I had to acknowledge as a holiday for the devil.I was so sad about that in my evangelical days..Anyway,I did my research and found that it really is not a demonic holiday(in my book at least) and even has some sacred quality. The Day of the Dead is the perfect example of this.
But in the industry of Halloween,we have gotten away from all those wonderful images of Jack-o-lanterns,and witches, ghosts and skeletons, and black cats.Instead,it has become bloody, with decapitated heads and stray body parts;death and doom;chain saws.At this golf course, they could not be too grusome because it was billed as family friendly, but it definitly had some gore going on.This was not a Halloween event but merely a precurser to the big Halloween haunted mansion they will have in the same place in about 6 weeks.
But as far as Halloween goes,I wish some of the haunted attractions were more about Halloween maybe in a classic sense(I guess we all can't be Disney's Haunted Mansion)I believe fun can be had, folks can get scared and traditions can be carried on from one generation to the next.Let's keep carving those pumpkins and building those scarecrows.Where I work,we have the Haunted Greenhouse every year and can't be too scary because most of the people going through it are children and adults with severe to profound disabilites. Now it does not have to be cute-sy,I am not a big fan of that either.I just want it to be good, artistic and embrace the true spirit of Halloween, which is something I am always figuring out for myself. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

A couple of good websites to look at are
www.charlottehaunts.com (for haunted golf)
www.ehaag.com which stands for ecletic Halloween arts and artist group
