This weekend Jean and I went to Black Sheep Cycles.I have driven by this place for a couple of years and always thought they serviced motorcycles.Nope it is a bicycle shop with a little edge to it (lots of tattooes walking around)...Jean and I both like retro/vintage stuff...whether it's mid-century modern dinnerware,vintage/folk art Halloween, furniture or bikes. The Halloween stuff is my obsession (bless Jean's heart)...but we both like the cool bikes we see from time to time at thrift stores..Black Sheep Cycles has some great retro bikes or are able to get them....they are in a bit of a warehouse with a black iron fence on one side...this is where their dogs play and there is a standing invitation for the customers to bring their own. They have a lounge area made up of retro furniture, they have wireless capabilities and coffee is available. We even checked out the online forum Black Sheep has.We had taken our bikes in for a tune up somewhere else and had been less than thrilled with the outcome.Black Sheep will be our bike people from now on.Jean and I decided we missed our bikes and wanted to start riding again.Last time I rode mine,I could barely do it because of a knee injury. Now I am happy to say I am pain free when riding and feel like a little kid again.Bikes do that.
On another note,I was honored to have seen Marcel Marceau in person 4 times in my life time.He was indeed the Master mime.Though I moved away from his style to a more organic form, there is still plenty of French influence in my style.Just like a musician has to learn scales, most mimes end up learning French mime stylized by Marceau. He died this weekend at the age of 84.His legacy will definitley live on in all the invisible walls and ropes pulled on the street and on stage.

Farmer's Markets and Turkeys
Went to this great little farmers market just a mile or so from my house.Actually I sold some herbs and bedding plants as well.It is a neat event twice a week. The hope is that it would grow since we do need a market in this area and hope to promote the idea of eating food locally. There is even a guy who comes out to play fiddle.Check it out at www.charlottetailgatemarket.com...it takes place beside a funky little neighborhood grocery called the Common market.Where else can I buy coffee, wine and a gift for my nephew in one stop.Last thing I got for my nephew there was a type of paperclip with a set of teeth on it.....oops... I just realized if my nephew is reading this, you just found out what one of your silly birthday gifts are from your wierd "Aunt Gaye "...sorry!
We have been enjoying walks around the block at dusk(thanks to the Summer Solstice this happens later and later) One of my neighbors has about 4 turkeys,at least one being female. When we pass his house,we see all 4 roosting on top of his house.Kind of look like vultures. It is quite a sight!Last week we saw mom turkey teaching chick turkeys how to fly. It is not uncommon to hear a turkey gobble when I go get the newspaper in the morning hours and every now and then the turkeys decide to take their own walk around the block...sometimes in full feather display. It makes my day to see this!
So here I live 10 minutes or less from downtown in a surburban neighborhood, and I write about farmers markets and turkeys close to the heart of the city.Just gotta love the community I live in.

This name sounds like a tattoo
I am not sure why I chose right now to write a blog...do I really want people to read what I write?
I guess I have always felt like I had something to say...and then I became a mime and didn't say anything at all....at least with my voice...for over 15 years....but I said alot through non-verbal movement.....so maybe now its time....to speak through written words.Of course, most of what I say will be day to day stuff....pretty boring.....yet most people who know me know my life is anything but boring. So we will see how it goes.
So the title of my blog.....what the heck does that mean.....
Well, vintage mime and sugar skulls green is actually a line to a poem I am walking around with in my brain....it belongs in a poem...somewhere in the middle....and this is all I have....
I feel like a vintage mime.....I don't quite have the mime body (whatever that is) I use to...my knees crackle and pop,my hair is grey...and every now and then I have to pull a rope that is not really there.Just to make sure I still"have it".
Sugar skulls:I have quite an obsession with skeletons...I am sure this is a result of my masasge school days...I do have a full sized skeleton hanging in my living room as decor....his name is Napolean Boneaparte.I also have an obession with Halloween and the Day of the Dead.According to the ideas surrounding the Day of the Dead, the skeletons actually mean new life...that even in death we live...that we can even have fun which is why so many tableaus are of skeletons doing fun things....
So perhaps the name of this blog is about a middle aged mime who still likes to have fun and really live life...
OK...I'll take it!
