5 years ago the black comedy continues on...

My sister,my nephew and myself as well as some folks from my mom's church showed up to see my mother in her casket, elegant dress and under garments. She looked just like mom.We all stood around her shedding tears, telling stories and talked about the way she looked. We were very satisfied with how she was"laid out".About that time Russell,my brother -in-law,called....he was having to take care of some business before hopping a plane to NC.My brother-in-law is a bit squeamish concerning dead people,so when he asked my sister what we were doing, she said,"we are looking at mom in her coffin..want to see?"She then held the phone towards mom and we could her him talking..probably saying something about how inappropriate we were being.
Mom was in a room that was like a chapel at the funeral home which meant we had a front row of chairs that we quickly filled up.I looked up and down the row of people as we continued to "look" at mom and noticed everyone had their heads cocked to the left as we gazed at her.My sister tapped my shoulder and asked me if mom looked crooked to me. The head of mom's casket definitely dipped lower than the foot of mom's casket.Turns out that because mom was short and the casket we picked out was a bit long, most of mom was in the top part of it.We asked them to place a cinder block or something in the other half so it would even out.

We got up and looked at mom one last time and Janet(my sister) and I noticed something...it looked like mom had a booger in her nose.We did not know what to do.Mom's pastor was a women and someone mom really trusted. So how appropriate it was for her to take the initiative to stick the tip of her pinkie in my mom's nose to remove the boogerish looking thing...we later found out it was a part of a sponge used to apply make-up.
